Lorraine is from Rostrevor, Co Down, Northern Ireland., a little town nestled away in the Mourne Mountains beside Carlingford Lough.
She began music late, starting violin at thirteen after being offered the chance of lessons at secondary school, soon after she began irish fiddle lessons. She joined the local choir, and started singing too. Piano came later, and harp at 18.
She graduated with first class honours from Queen’s University Belfast in Music Education, but didn’t go into full time teaching instead concentrating on performing music.
Songwriting came later, “I had written songs before, but was rather shy about playing them…you really give a lot about yourself away when you perform your own songs! I also felt like I hadn’t quite found my sound yet. With the songs on this album, I knew they were not going to be just harp and voice, but a much bigger sound.”
After saving up a few pounds, she finally got herself into the recording studio to get this album recorded., “It took me a long time to get there, and even longer to get the album finished!”
The result after six months is this album. “For me writing these songs was a form of escapism- a way of reconnecting to the sheer magic of life, remembering to be hopeful no matter what comes our way, and that really we can be anything we want to be.”
